Pastor:
Rev. James Bigelow KNOWING THE LORDRev. James L BigelowGod will reveal himself to anyone who has a strong desire to know him. Understanding him is a progressive experience. We should continually grow in the knowledge of the Lord. Once you believe on Jesus Christ, you should seek to become more deeply and intimately acquainted with him. The book of Acts contains the story of a man named Saul, who developed that kind of relationship. Revelation: Acts 9:3-20 tells of Saul's dramatic conversion. This man, who once persecuted the followers of Jesus, later became a devoted preacher of the gospel of Christ. God got his attention in a powerful way: he blinded him with the brightness of his glory as it shown from heaven. Falling to the ground, Saul cried out with a trembling voice, "Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus..." (verse 5).Purpose:From that moment of revelation on, Saul maintained a determined purpose to know the Lord more strongly and clearly. He wrote:"I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,... That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his suffering, being made conformable unto his death; if by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead." (Philippians 3:8, 10)Paul believed that his ultimate salvation depended upon knowing the Lord. This Click here for complete sermon! Selected works by Rev.
