Mike PhelpsIsaiah 66:1-2Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest? 2 For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word. iI love the question posed to mere mortals by an immortal God as He observed them trying to build a house for Him:He's speaking to people who thought they had figured out what pleased Him. He's speaking to people who thought they could impress God with lavish edifices, and fancy trappings.And, the God of the Universe asks with just a slight trace of sarcasm:"How do you propose to build a dwelling place for the One whose Throne is the heavens and whose footstool is the earth?""How do you propose to build a ranch for the One who owns the cattle on a thousand hills?""How do you think you can build an edifice to box in an omnipresent God?""Do you think that I'm drawn to your gold leaf, and your silver goblets, your marble pillars, and velvet trappings?"You've got it all wrong, folks, the Lord said.You know those gold nuggets you mined, melted, formed into candlesticks?o Well, I created them in the first place!You know that marble you hewed out of the mountain, ...
