And Joshua went to Him and said to Him, "Are You for us or for our adversaries?"14 So He said, "No, but as Commander of the army of the LORD I have now come."And Joshua fell on his face to the earth and worshiped, and said to Him, "What does my Lord say to His servant?"15 Then the Commander of the LORD's army said to Joshua, "Take your sandal off your foot, for the place where you stand is holy." And Joshua did so.What a daunting, almost impossible situation that Joshua finds himself in.God has informed Joshua that He want him to attack Jericho.Jericho was the most imposing, well-fortified and protected city in Canaan.But before the battle even started, God gave a promise...The name Jericho literally means - Place of fragranceFragrance was very significant in the Old Testament.In fact God commanded that the priests burn incense in the Tabernacle which the fragrance of that incense was symbolical of prayer and praise going up before God.Exodus 30:7-10 (NKJV)7 "Aaron shall burn on it sweet incense every morning; when he tends the lamps, he shall burn incense on it. 8 And when Aaron lights the lamps at twilight, he shall burn incense on it, a perpetual incense before the LORD throughout your generations. 10 ...
