For if the words spoken by angels were firm and every "stepping around" and every "listening around" receives a just payback of reward, how shall we escape if we neglect such a great a salvation, which had its beginning to be spoken through the Lord, and was confirmed to us by them who heard him, with God witnessing together with signs and wonders and with many kinds of powers and divisions in the Holy Ghost according to his wish. The word that the writer uses saying to be very careful to "tie down" means to "moor": as in "to tie or moor down the boat." He is admonishing the Christian to tie down the things that you have heard, very securely, just as you would a boat, lest at any time it slips away out of the harbor. He says that the gospel truth of salvation must be tied down securely, for if it is not tied down, it will slip, as it were, past the harbor.
